City of Brawley Hosts Educational Meetings on Measure J
Brawley, CA — The City of Brawley will be hosting two educational community meetings in September regarding Measure J— Brawley Public Safety, Streets, Essential Services Measure: a citywide 1% transactions and use tax (commonly known as a "sales tax") measure that will be on the November 5, 2024 ballot. City staff will conduct a short presentation on Measure J with time to answer residents' questions.
The meetings will take place on the following dates:
September 24, 2024 from 6-7:00 p.m. — The Stockmen’s Club of Imperial Valley (275 Marjorie Ave, Brawley, CA 92227)
September 25, 2024 from 6-7:00 p.m. — The Hidalgo Society Banquet Hall (410 S. Cesar Chavez Street Brawley CA 92227)
“These meetings are an opportunity for residents to learn about Measure J so that they can make an informed vote in November,” shares Jimmy Duran, Interim City Manager. “In the spirit of transparency, we are committed to answering residents' questions regarding the Measure.”
The Brawley Public Safety, Streets, Essential Services Measure is a citywide 1% transactions and use tax. The revenues collected could help the City maintain and improve critical general services such as public safety, addressing homelessness, providing affordable housing opportunities, improving street maintenance, and be hard on drugs, gangs and crime. If a majority of voters approve the Measure, revenues would go to the City’s General Fund to fund general City services and programs for its residents.
“We have been fiscally prudent, but costs continue to rise in the public sector, and like most cities in Imperial County, we are seeing the need to supplement our revenues,” shares Finance Director Silvia Luna. “Measure J, would allow us to set aside funds for further needed investments in our community.”
